on plasma tv's, how long do they last until you must fill them back up with the xenon and what ever

I am planning on buying a Vizio plasma tv and i don't have HD cable. Will my picture look like crap or will it look the same as a regular TV? also will playing my x box 360 mess up the plasma TV or not?
