  1. you should try getting a bird that doesn’t try to kill you lol…but I think you’re supposed to teach them tby saying the same words to them (the words you want them to learn) everyday

  2. how old is it? and how long have you had it? if it hasnt been long then he may not be old enough to and still getting used to a new enviroment. give it time to get comfortable. birds tend to stress very easily in new enviroments. my fiance’s dad has a bird, and when it first met me it hated me but then i talked to it in a calm voice, and he repeats what i say. its still touchy when i try to pet him, but you gotta let him get comfy with the idea first. dont just reach out and pet him. give him time to adjust to your hand being near him first.

  3. Try leaving the TV on. I’ve had 7 birds (1 dove, 2 cockatails, 2 love birds, 1 conor, 1 parakeet ) and only 1 bird I knew (my mom’s parakeet, actually she had two, and the conor was hers also) learned how to talk. The one that talked was my moms (a parakeet) Also, though it’s hard, be patient. You can go to the pet store and buy a bird training video or something, I never did.

  4. Parrots aren’t known to be the friendliest animals ever; however, when they decide they like someone, they become extremely attached. Give it time, a lot of attention, and all the love and attention you can. Parrots take time to learn, just like anything else! Good luck. ;)

  5. Our family bird is a twenty year old cockatiel, so this is my kind of question. Here is the info we need in order to help you. What kind of bird is it? How long have you had it? How old might it be? Was it raised by hand? Could it have been abused? Post another question about the biting problem with this information and we might be able to solve this for you.

How much a parrot will talk depends on it’s breed and gender. Some are better talkers than others. The best way to get it to talk is to say the word or phrase you want it to learn in a funny voice that hold’s the bird’s attention. Never teach a bird to swear! They can easily out live you and a bird that swears can’t easily find a good home. Good luck.

  6. BIRDS LOVE DRAMA………………..If you just sit there and talk to it like you would another person its not going to pick it up very well. BUT for some reason throw your hands around and just be really dramatic about it and hyper about it they love it. And then once they get the hang of it they catch on to alot themselves. Now this isnt an overnight thing either it will take some time, but you will be successful. Just for an example my aunt has an African Grey and she would sit there and baby talk it and it wasnt really doing anything. Well she lives alone, and if she would drop something or stub her toe she would swear. AND the bird just thought that was great and he wanted to do it. Its about 3 years later now and it is amazing what that bird can do…birds are very smart. that bird can imitate my auts voice to a T and then go and switch its voice to her boyfriends just like that he watches COPS and mimichs the sirens he tells my cousins boyfriend off when he walks in the door because he doesnt like him and no one ever even taught him the things hes saying to her boyfriend he just put the words together…

  7. i heard that you are just meant to repeat a word for like 15 minutes a day over and over…well thats what dr harry said

  8. to talk you need to reapet a word for 15 minutes 3 times a day until he/she say it.

  9. OMG mine too we almost got rid of ours she attacks and she bites SO hard! man we tried very thing from blowing in her face to flicking her nose…… we try so hard but she talks all the time because we have so many animals and TVs going she picks up from people talking…..mine is a Quaker parrot. looks like an over size parakeet.

  10. u should just repeat words infront of the parrot & gradually it will also learn the words.i mean to say that u should not just talk to the parrot but talk infront of it with your friend or some1

and don’t force it speak.afterall it is also an organism and will get annoyed.i think it is afraid of you that is why u should wait a little and try to be friendly.i ‘m sure good results will come.

  11. what you do is put a towel or sheet around his cage, and sit their for 15-20 mins a day repeating the words over and over again or get a type recorder, its best if you get a female voice cause its got a higher pitch.

  12. PUHLEEEZE!!! Give the poor guy some space!! For heaven’s sake, how would you like “EVERYBODY” grabbing at you!! I have spent many years in Parrot Rescue and it sounds like you have entirely too many people around this poor bird. They are sensitive, intelligent, long-lived creatures. Back-off! I cannot even count the number of birds I have had to rehabilitate for months after being in this type of environment before I could find them new homes.
Let me guess, you thought it was a cool idea to get a parrot because they are beautiful and you had heard all about how they can talk and do tricks. You never stopped to think about whether your household was a proper home for the bird, not to mention whether you were a proper owner. They … look, if you don’t have the control over your environment, or the patience to spend MONTHS earning the animal’s trust, THEN to begin the slow process of training, PLEASE at least try to find a rescue person in your area and relinquish the bird.
